In The Round
Full-circle storytelling of musicians and their music. In the Round is dedicated to highlighting musicians on their music journey. Whether they are local, regional, or touring coast to coast, they all have great stories to tell. We want to go beyond the expected stories and hear about all the other stories. The funny stories. The heartwarming stories. The unfortunate lows and riding high. Let’s get to get to know the artists in a different light, not just the limelight. And no story is well told without the music that was born from the journey. We will discuss and play some current work but will be just as likely to dig up some obscure work and take it for a listen as well. Ride along as we conduct full-circle interviews and uncover some unexpected stories of musicians and their music.

Jordan Beem learned to play guitar after his dad teased him about only “playing” Guitar Hero. That ignited the spark for him to hone this new craft, relying on YouTube and a few choir classes to grow his skills, eventually propelling him into the award-winning artist he is today. While he spends much of his time rocking out country covers at venues across Iowa and the Midwest, he’s also released multiple originals including “Fire and Flame” which he played for us in studio. Jordan’s smooth vocals, country-forward sensibility, and good time energy keep audiences shakin’ their tambourines and coming back for more.

Meet River, AKA River Glen, a multi-instrumentalist, multi-faceted human who hails from Iowa but prefers life on the road. River grew up traveling with the family band, starting on violin at age 3 and later picking up guitar and mandolin, eventually evolving into his sound as a solo artist which he describes as “truth-to-power folk” and “poetic pop”. He takes his vocation as a musician seriously, using it to commune with audiences at a visceral level, reflect shared experiences, and often engaging it as a form of activism.
Listen to our in-depth conversation then hear a clip of his song “Elderless Age” before the live performance video drops next week. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to see the videos!
